I studied theoretical physics at the university of Kaiserslautern in Germany and finished my master thesis in 1993.

1997 I published my PhD thesis in relativistic electro-dynamics. The work was special because currents are examined in regions with variing topological connectivity.

My master thesis and the doctoral thesis were both in the area computational physics.

After my years at university I worked as IT consultant for different companies like Audi, AOK, EZB, Deutsche Post, Bahn, BMW, European Central Bank and Stada AG.

I like Java as a programming language and I’m a fan of Test Driven Development. I used Java under Windows, Android, Linux and Solaris. I try to improve Software Design using Design Pattern (GoF, Enterprise Integration Patterns) which often leads me to SOA and MOM usage. With ESBs like Apache’s ServiceMix in combination with Camel I implemented interfaces with several thousand messages a day connecting companies in Europe with a company central in Germany. For production usage of Java ESBs it was important that the ESB was based on OSGi with enabled hot deployment and isolation of the different interfaces (for example inbound orders for one subsidery).

As the head of IT-development I have connected a lot of partner companies and subsidaries to a central SAP (ERP / CRM / BW , XI/PI, …) system.

In the last years I’m successfully using technologies from the hadoop eco system (HDFS, Hive, Zookeeper, HBase, Yarn, Tez, Cassandra, …) to build scalable software, which is able to process large amount of data (typically unstructured). As a side effect shared nothing technologies often lead to highly available architectures where downtimes of one or several servers have no impact on the complete system functions.
